Upper Yoder Fire Rescue
A Division of Upper Yoder Fire Company
Upper Yoder Fire Rescue is the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division of the Upper Yoder Volunteer Fire Company. Our agency is licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS as a Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support agency. The Fire Rescue division provides one paid crew consisting of an Emergency Medical Technician and a Paramedic 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When needed, a second crew is staffed or placed on call.

The Fire Rescue Division, currently owns two ambulances. One is a 4 wheel drive to be prepared for the winter weather we experience in west-central Pennsylvania. This allows us the additional benefit of providing optimal care to the citizens of Upper Yoder Township and Ferndale Borough. At times, we assist in providing mutual aid coverage to other municipalities when their designated EMS agency is committed on another call. Likewise, when our ambulance is committed on another call, we rely on mutual aid to assure emergency medical service coverage is available.
The EMS Levels of Service We Provide
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Is staffed by an ambulance crew capable of providing medical assessment, observation, triage, monitoring, treatment and transportation of patients who require EMS at or below the skill level of an EMT. These skills include basic patient assessment, basic airway techniques, use of an AED, obtaining glucose levels, pulse oximetry, the ability to administer certain life saving medications to include aspirin, epinephrine for allergic reaction, oxygen therapy.
Is staffed by an ambulance crew capable of providing medical assessment, observation, triage, monitoring, treatment and transportation of patients who require EMS above the skill level of an EMT. These skills include all the skills of a BLS ambulance in addition advanced level patient assessment, advanced airway management, obtaining and interpreting 12 Lead EKGs, manual cardiac defibrillation, intravenous access, administration of various medications for pain, cardiac, medical, and traumatic injuries.
Both ambulances are equipped the same in order to provide the highest level of response.
Benefits of Subscribing to our EMS Agency
Around March each year, we ask the citizens of Upper Yoder Township and Ferndale Borough to consider subscribing to our organization to support our ability to be prepared in the event of a medical or traumatic injury. With a subscription fee of $45 per household our Agency will submit to your insurance carrier all claims for services provided during an emergency. While the majority of the insurance billing is completed electronically, you will simply need to provide complete and accurate insurance information and supply us with any special forms your insurance carrier may require.

Once your annual deductible is met, we received payment from your health insurance company, you are responsible for your co-payment amount. In many cases a supplemental insurance carrier, such as a Major Medical or a Medi-Gap policy, may pay this amount once the deductible has been met.
